Here is an extremely displayable fossil insect. This is a Mayfly, Heptagenia sp., from the Jurassic of China. This large insect (over four inches wide!) displays the head, segmented body and all four wings in wonderful fashion. The spike at the end of the thick body is intact and the venation of the wings can be seen. The insect has very good color and contrast and is well centered on the rounded plate of matrix. This is a very "showy" specimen of this unusual insect from the time of the dinosaurs.
