This is a very distinct fossil. It is an excellent Lytoloma elegans (Turtle) Skull from the Phosphate Beds of Morocco. This specimen was acquired from the Richard Busch Collection, who originally acquired it from the Chance Collection. Busch was the Preparator/Asst. Curator at the North Museum in Lancaster, PA from 1965-1992. This fabulous marine turtle skull is REAL AND FULLY NATURAL, still in the rock, not composited from parts like almost all of these skulls from Morocco. The textbook shape is very well defined, and the minute, porous bone detail is just amazing. The skull is still embedded in ONE UNBROKEN PIECE of dense phosphatic matrix. This is an extremely collectible example of a REAL fossil marine turtle skull that was once a part of both the Chance and the Busch Collections.
