This is a striking fossil. It is a large Paraspirifer bownockeri from the Devonian of Ohio. Both valves of the robust brachiopod are intact and tightly attached. The fossil exhibits very fine detail - the coarse radial ornamentation is easily seen. The very inflated brachiopod has been replaced by iron pyrite or ''fool's gold'' - the golden coloration of the fossil is quite impressive. This is a wonderful example of this large pyritized brachiopod from the famous Silica Formation.
