This is a very impressive fossil. It is a very large Cleoniceras cleon from the Cretaceous of Madagascar. This ammonite has been split in half and both halves have been highly polished for optimal display. The coiling pattern of the cepahlopod is easily seen, and the individual chambers of the ammonite are beautifully showcased. A few of the chambers are hollow and lined with golden calcite crystals, like miniature geodes. The large size of the specimen (almost six inches wide!), combined with its exquisite quality and striking, natural color, makes for a gorgeous exhibit. This would be a stunning display fossil for a collection, one's home or office, or to give as a gift.
