This is a very pretty pair of ammonites. These colorful cephalopods are from the Jurassic of Russia. The ammonites on the block are fine examples of Cosmoceras proniae. This type of ammonite has pronounced ribbing and a sharp keel. Both ammonites exhibit wonderful detail - the inner whorls of the ammonites are easily seen. The extremely iridescent coloration of the fossils is just spectacular (even better than the picture!) The fossils are beautifully perched on the large block of concretionary matrix. This is a stunning double specimen of iridescent ammonites from Russia.
