This is a fine example of a very rare US trilobite. It is large Olenellus sp. from the Lower Cambrian of Lancaster, Pennsylvania. This specimen was found in 1986, and has been in our collection for years - this locality is closed and has been a parking lot for the last 30 years! This site is unusual in that Olenellus were quite rare, and only a handful of complete ones were ever unearthed. This distinct trilobite is extremely inflated and even has part of the elusive telson (tailspine) intact (see close-up photo). The bug is preserved in the classic "Brubaker's Mudstone" layer, which is like the consistency of brick or coarse chalk. The striking trilobite displays beautifully on the large plate of mud-brown Kinzers shale. This is a rare example of a large Olenellus with tailspine from the famous Brubaker's Quarry.
