Here is a very fine fossil fish from the famous Solnhofen Limestone of Germany. This lithographic limestone is well known for the fantastic preservation of the rare fossils that are occasionally encountered. This large fish has the open mouth and eye socket beautifully displayed. The bone structure is clearly defined, and the fins are easily seen. The orangish-brown fish contrasts nicely with the cream-colored matrix. The fossil is well presented on a large rectangular plate of limestone. This is a very attractive fossil fish from the Jurassic.
