This is an amazing cephalopod fossil. This is a huge specimen of a belemnite, Cylindroteuthis oweni, from the Jurassic of Russia. Belemnites were a squid-like animals, closely related to a modern-day cuttlefish. This bullet-shaped belemnite is unusually complete and very 3-dimensional. The fossil is free of matrix and displays beautifully from all sides. The cephalopod has wonderful orange-brown coloration and a natural transclucent quality. And it is almost SIX inches long - wow! This is a very collectible specimen of a large Cylindroteuthis belemnite - one of the largest fossil belemnites that ever lived.
