This is a nice fossil crab from a very unusual location. It is Carcinus exculptus from the Miocene of Italy. This site is known for the large assortment of fossil animals found there, but complete crabs are generally uncommon. This inflated crab has very nice detail preserved, especially on the carapace. The fossil crustacean has great natural color and displays impressively on the large, rectangular plate of sandstone. This is a fine example of this very distinct crab from Italy.
