This is a large specimen of Discoscaphites conradi from the Cretaceous of South Dakota. The fossil cephalopod is very inflated and complete all the way down to the aperture. The faint ribbing pattern and the nodes around the circumference of the ammonite are nicely preserved. The somewhat iridescent shell is intact and beautifully displayed. The ammonite is well showcased on the large, natural matrix block that also contains other ammonites and bivalves. This is a very large display ammonite from the Fox Hills Formation.
