This is a freakin' HUGE specimen of Hoploscaphites nebrascensis from the Cretaceous of South Dakota. The fossil cephalopod is extremely inflated, and the faint ribbing pattern and the nodes around the circumference of the ammonite are nicely preserved. The iridescent mother-of-pearl shell is intact and beautifully displayed. The ammonite is well showcased on the small, natural matrix block. This is a HUGE ammonite from the Fox Hills Formation.
