Here is an extremely pretty fossil seed fern from the famous Mazon Creek area of Illinois. This plant is beautifully preserved in a siderite concretion. Both halves of the concretion (part and counterpart) are present. This specimen exhibits excellent detail. The central "stem" is quite apparent and each individual leaflet is clearly defined. The incredible color and contrast of the fossil is totally natural - no paint or coloring has been added to the specimen. This is a very attractive seed fern from the Pennsylvanian.
