This is a very distinct fossil leaf. It is a wonderful Zizyphoides flabellum (Katsura Tree) leaf from a new find in the Paleocene of Montana. This specimen has great round shape - the venation and small petiole are also clearly seen. The fabulous color makes for a striking display. The beautiful leaf is well showcased on the large, natural plate of shale that also contains a nice piece of bark. This is a very unusual fossil leaf from an unusual location in Montana.
