This is a beautiful plant fossil. It is a striking plate of fossil fern fronds from Pennsylvania. This specimen is replaced with the mineral Pyrophyllite, which gives the fossil its stunning bright white color. The ferns have great detail and contrast beautifully with the black matrix plate. And there is even a Sphenophyllum branch on the plate, and fern fronds on the back side. This is a very displayable and collectible grouping of fossil fern fronds from the Coal Age.
