Due to their delicate nature, flowers are very rare in the fossil record. This is a very nice specimen of Astronium truncatum, a tropical flower, from the Eocene of Colorado. This specimen is from Colorado - most Green River flowers are from Utah. This fossil flower exhibits wonderful detail - the distinct petals are beautifully displayed. The fossil has very good color and contrast and is well centered on the squared plate of shale. This is an excellent example of a rare and delicate fossil flower.
