This is a very aesthetic fossil fish plate from the Eocene of Wyoming. The fish on the bottom is an excellent specimen of Diplomystus dentatus. The fish on the top is a striking specimen of an open-mouth Knightia eocaena. Both fish exhibit wonderful detail - the overall shapes and bone structures are nicely displayed. The fossils have great dark color, which contrasts very well with the cream-colored matrix. The distinct fish are well showcased on the large plate of shale, both swimming in the same direction! This is a beautiful display specimen of two different fossil fish from the Green River Formation.
