This is a gorgeous example of a rare Fagopsis fruiting body from the Green River Formation of Utah. This 'fruit ball'' exhibits outstanding detail and has extraordinary, natural coloration. The dark brown fruit contrasts beautifully with the naturally-tan matrix. The fossil is well showcased on the large plate of shale that also contains a Willow leaf, a bug-eaten Allophylus leaf, other leaves, and a fossil beetle! This is a beautiful and collectible specimen of this unusual fruiting body from the Eocene.
