This is a distinct specimen of a juvenile Diplomystus dentatus from the Green River Formation of Wyoming. This fish is colorful and exhibits fine detail. The bone structure of the fish is beautifully displayed, the fins and tail are easily seen, and the upturned mouth adds a certain charm. The orange color of the fish contrasts wonderfully with the light-colored matrix. The small fossil herring is well showcased on the large plate of shale that also contains an excellent gastropod (snail). This is a very unusual juvenile fish and snail association from Wyoming.
