Here is a fine Pennsylvanian plant fossil. It is a large fossil Seed Fern from the famous Mazon Creek deposits of Illinois. This specimen was acquired from a major fossil collection. The Seed Fern is well preserved in a siderite concretion. Both halves of the concretion are present, so both part and counterpart are intact. The fossil plant exhibits wonderful detail - the central stem is clearly defined, and the individual leaflets are beautifully displayed. The concretion has great, natural orange color and striking contrast. This is a very aesthetic example of a fossil Seed Fern from this classic locality.
