Here is a nice specimen of Leptolepis sp. from the famous Solnhofen Limestone of Germany. This lithographic limestone is well known for the fantastic preservation of the rare fossils that are occasionally encountered. This fish is complete and has good detail - the shape of the fish is easily seen and clearly defined. The fossil has great color and contrast and is well presented on the large plate of limestone that also contains some fabulous dendrites at the bottom. This is a fine example of a fossil fish preserved on dendritic limestone.
