Here is a fine specimen of one of the most sought-after fish from the Green River Shale. This is Priscacara liops from the Eocene of Wyoming. This fish was found in the "18 inch layers" and painstakingly prepared with an air abrasive machine to reveal the wonderful detail of this "sunfish". The bone structure of this fish is superb, and the eye socket is easily seen. The fins are clearly defined - the sharp spines of the dorsal fin are intact and well displayed. The natural, dark-brown color of the fish contrasts well with the light-colored matrix. The fish is wonderfully showcased on the semi-rectangular plate of shale. This is a very nice example of this highly collectible fossil fish from the Green River Formation.
