Here is a nice specimen of an unusual predatory fish. This is Eohiodon falcatus from the Green River Shale of Wyoming. Only a handful of these rare ''mooneye'' fish are found each year, and this is a complete one. The fish is wonderfully articulated and exhibits fine detail. The bone structure is easily seen, and the fins and tail are well displayed. The eye socket is quite evident and MANY large teeth are preserved in the open mouth (hard to see in photo). The fish has fine natural color and contrast and is well centered on the rectangular plate of shale. And the fossil has been professionally framed for optimal display. This is a very collectible example of this highly uncommon predatory fish from the Eocene.
