This is an extremely impressive insect fossil. It is a huge swarm of Craneflies from the Eocene ''Leaf Site'' in Utah. This plate is just teeming with insects - there are HUNDREDS of individuals preserved. The flies have excellent detail, especially under magnification. This is a very unusual specimen showing many, MANY insects fossilized together - a very rare occurrence in the fossil record.
