Here is a very nice, large fossil fish. This is Diplomystus dentatus from the Eocene of Wyoming. This large fossil herring is complete and preserves fine detail. The bone structure of the fish is wonderfully defined. The eye socket of the fish is easily seen, and the fins are nicely displayed. The striking, orange-brown color of the fish contrasts beautifully with the cream-colored matrix. The large fossil is well showcased on the large plate of shale. This is a very fine example of a very large Diplomystus from the Green River Formation.
