Due to their delicate nature, flowers are very rare in the fossil record. This is a very fine example of an Eocene flower from the Green River Formation of Utah. This flower is wonderfully preserved in top view, and the long petiole is still tightly attached and easily seen. The individual petals are beautifully displayed, and the natural color of the fossil is quite striking. The flower is well showcased on the plate of matrix that also has a fossil insect to the right of the flower. This is a fabulous example of a rare and delicate fossil flower.
