Here is a very displayable fossil herring from the Eocene of Wyoming. This is Knightia eocaena from the Green River Formation. This classic fossil fish is complete and exhibits very fine detail. The bone structure and fins are nicely displayed, and the overall shape is quite distinct. The eye socket of the fish is easily seen, and the scale pattern is somewhat preserved. The large fossil has great dark color and contrasts beautifully with the light-colored matrix. The fish is nicely centered on the large plate of shale that has hardware on the back for hanging on the wall. This is an excellent display example of a fossil herring ready to hang in your home or office.
