Here is a very nice specimen of a fossil Cyclopteris trichomanoides from the famous Tonganoxie Sandstone of Kansas. Cyclopteris is the name given to oval or oval-elliptical leaflets of Neuropteris if they are found detached from rest of the plant. The specimen has very good color and contrast. The fern displays very fine detail. The venation is very easily seen. This specimen was recently acquired from an old collection - the specimen was collected in the 1970s. We have heard that this site has been closed to collecting for a number of years. This is a very detailed specimen of Cyclopteris trichomanoides fern from the Pennsylvanian of Kansas.
