This is a very fine example of Mioplosus labracoides from the Eocene of Wyoming. This highly detailed fish exhibits superb bone structure - the eye socket is easily seen, and the backbone is well preserved. The dark brown fossil contrasts nicely with the cream-colored matrix. The complete fish is beautifully showcased on the large plate of shale. This is a very nice eight inch specimen of this uncommon fish from the Green River Shale.
