This is a beautiful specimen of Priscacara hypsacantha from the Eocene of Wyoming. This diminutive type of fossil fish only grows to a maximum of three inches long, This specimen has natural orange-brown color that contrasts beautifully with the cream-colored matrix. The fish has great bone structure and extremely fine fin detail - even the tail is fully defined. The fish is almost perfectly centered on the HUGE plate of matrix that contains a SECOND Priscacara hypsacantha at the bottom of the plate! This is simply a fabulous example of this unusual fossil fish from the Green River Formation.
