This is a fine example of Mioplosus labracoides from the Eocene of Wyoming. This highly detailed fish exhibits very nice bone structure - the eye socket is present, and the backbone is easily seen. The orange-brown fossil contrasts nicely with the cream-colored matrix. The complete fish is beautifully showcased on the semi-oval plate of shale. This is a very nice specimen of this uncommon fish from the Green River Shale.
