Here is an extremely rare, unidentified fossil catkin from the Green River Shale. A catkin is a drooping, scaly spike of small flowers without petals. This is a fine specimen of a catkin that is extremely detailed. The fossil has extremely nice dark color and contrasts wonderfully with the lighter-colored matrix. The plant fossil is well showcased on the natural plate of shale. This is a super specimen of a very rare fossil catkin.
