This is a very large example of Mioplosus labracoides from the Eocene of Wyoming. This highly detailed fish exhibits wonderful bone structure - the tail is extremely well preserved! The dark brown fossil contrasts nicely with the cream-colored matrix. The complete fish is beautifully showcased on the semi-oval plate of shale. This is a large specimen (almost 10 inches!) of this uncommon predatory fish from the Green River Shale.
