This is a very early fossil fish. It is an excellent Osteolepis panderi from the famous Turin Hill of Scotland. This type of fish is one of the earliest and most primitive fossil fish. This specimen has incredible detail preserved - the distinct scale detail of the fish is easily seen (sort of hard to see in photo). The eye sockets are also prominently displayed, which is quite unusual. The fish has great shape and is nicely showcased on the large matrix block that also contains a large partial fish. This is a great Devonian fish from a site that has been collected since the 1700's!
