This is a beautiful specimen of the Devonian crinoid, Arthroacantha, from the classic Sylvania, Ohio location. Although this site is famous for its Phacops trilobites, occasionally a crinoid is unearthed. This striking specimen is very 3-dimensional and is replaced by beautiful golden pyrite. The detail of the arms is excellent, and a long stem is still attached. And there is even a golden Platyceras gastropod feeding on the anal tube of the crinoid (hard to see in photo). But that's not all - the sea lily is wonderfully showcased on the large block of Silica Shale. The sea floor bottom plate displays over a dozen pyritized brachiopods, a handfull of trilobite parts, and a bryozoan or two. This is a very collectible crinoid on a sea floor bottom plate that just happens to display beautifully.
