Here is a spectacular fossil crinoid, complete to the roots. This large crinoid is Actinocrinites gibsoni from the Mississippian of Indiana. This sea lily is extremely inflated and exhibits excellent detail. A LONG, 3-dimensional stem is tightly attached to the huge, stellate-plated cup. The heavy, biserial arms are festooned with fine pinnules - these feathery pinnules are very easily seen. The fossil has great color and superb contrast with the light grey matrix. The crinoid is wonderfully showcased on the large plate of siltstone. This is a textbook fossil crinoid with very long stem, finely pinnulated arms, and complete to the roots - one of the best single examples of this type we have ever seen.
This fossil was collected and obtained legally, and is also being sold legally.
