This is a very unusual insect in amber. It is a large Wood Gnat (Anisopodidae) from the Dominican Republic. This type is known for its large size and unusual segmented antennae, which are easily seen on this specimen. The rest of the gnat is also very well preserved. The gnat is beautifully displayed and nicely showcased within the amber nugget. This is a fabulous example of a rare fossilized Wood Gnat (small close-up photo is included for free).
