This is a very uncommon fossil fly. It is a complete Acalyptrate Fly from the Dominican Republic. Acalyptrate flies are rarely preserved in amber. This specimen is LARGE - easily seen in the amber piece. The detail of this specimen is amazing - the huge compound eyes are quite striking. This is an extremely collectible example of a rare Acalyptrate Fly entombed in Dominican Amber (small close-up photo is included for free).
