This is a very aesthetic crinoid. It is a large Macrocrinus mundulus from the famous Mississippian layers near Crawfordsville, Indiana. This type of Camerate crinoid has a large cup composed of many plates and biserial arms that contain many pinnules. This specimen is well inflated and exhibits fine detail. The plate structure of the cup is quite evident, and the arms are easily seen. A long, articulated stem is still tightly attached to the cup of the crinoid, and the anal tube can be seen extending out through the tips of the arms. The sea lily has very good color and contrast and is beautifully centered on the rectangular plate of siltstone. This is a nice example of a crinoid with long stem from a renowned site.
This fossil was collected and obtained legally, and is also being sold legally.
