Here is a rare crinoid from a classic location that is now closed to collecting. This is Cactocrinus sp. from the Mississippian of Iowa. This location was famous for crinoids found many decades ago. This specimen was recently acquired from a major fossil collection. This fossil sea lily is very 3-dimensional and exhibits wonderful detail. The camerate crinoid has a large, stellate-plated cup and long, stout biserial arms that display fine pinnulation. The gorgeous creamish-brown crinoid contrasts nicely with the matrix. The fossil is well centered on the squared plate of limestone. This is a beautiful example of a large Cactocrinus from a famous closed location. (The right side of the crinoid is not missing, it is just hidden by shadows.)

This fossil was collected and obtained legally, and is also being sold legally.
