This is an extremely unusual crinoid. It is a Cydrocrinus concinnus from the Mississippian of Indiana. This type of crinoid has a small, cone-shaped cup with long, uniserial arms that are comprised of tiny wedge-shaped plates. It is highly uncommon to find this crinoid with the arms so well preserved. Most of the time, when this scarce crinoid is encountered, the arms are broken off very short or missing entirely. This specimen is extremely unusual in that the arms are wonderfully intact. A long portion of the somewhat pentagonal stem is still tightly attached to the cup. The sea lily is nicely inflated and has natural color and good contrast. The fossil is well presented on the semi-rectangular plate of siltstone. This is an excellent specimen of this rare crinoid from Crawfordsville, Indiana.
