Here is a fine fossil seed fern from the famous Mazon Creek area of Illinois. This specimen came from an old collection in Chicago. This Coal Age plant is wonderfully preserved in a siderite concretion - both halves of the concretion (part and counterpart) are present. This large specimen exhibits excellent detail. The individual leaflets are clearly defined - under magnification, the venation of the leaflets is easily seen. The beautiful color and contrast of the fossil is totally natural - no coloring or enhancement has been added to the specimen. This is a very attractive Mazon Creek fern from an old collection.
