Due to their delicate nature, flowers are very rare in the fossil record. This is a great specimen of an Eocene flower from Utah. This flower is wonderfully preserved in side view. The petiole of the flower is clearly defined, and the drooping petals are easily seen. The upright stamens are even intact and beautifully displayed, which is quite uncommon. The fossil flower has great color and contrast and is nicely presented on the natural plate of shale that also contains a snout beetle and another insect. This is an exciting specimen of a rare fossil flower from the Green River Formation
