This is a beautiful fly in fossil amber. It is a large Fungus Gnat (Mycetophilidae) from the Dominican Republic. The fly has great detail, and is preserved in a very aesthetic pose - the long legs and gossamer wings are wonderfully displayed. The gnat is easily seen in the honey-colored amber piece. And there is even an unusual phoretic Mite (Acari) caught on the gnat's wing! This is a beautiful fossil insect trapped in Dominican Amber (small close-up photo is included for free).
