Here is a very pretty fossil seed fern from the famous Mazon Creek area of Illinois. This Pennsylvanian plant is wonderfully preserved in a siderite concretion. Both halves of the large concretion (part and counterpart) are present. This specimen exhibits very fine detail - the individual leaflets are clearly defined. The fossil has very good color and contrast. This is an attractive example of a fossil seed fern from the Coal Age.
