Here is a nice specimen of Leptolepis sp. from the famous Solnhofen Limestone of Germany. This lithographic limestone is well known for the fantastic preservation of the rare fossils that are occasionally encountered. This fish is complete and has good detail. The bone structure is easily seen, and the eye socket of the fish is clearly defined. The fossil has great color and contrast and is well presented on the rectangular plate of limestone. This is a fine example of a fossil fish from the Jurassic.
