This is a very interesting amber fossil. It is a leaf and a stamen from a Hymenaea protera tree. Hymenaea protera was the Dominican ''amber tree'', the tree whose sap is responsible for the majority of the amber found today. Hymenaea protera's nearest living relative is the ''algarrobo'', which is the same genus and is found mostly in the eastern part of the Dominican Republic. This amber piece has a large leaf and stamen from this ''amber tree''. Both specimens have great detail and are easily seen trapped within the large amber piece. This is a great example of two definitive parts of the ancient ''amber tree'' (close-up photo is included for free).
