This is a very unusual plate of plant fossils. It is a Quercus simulata (Live Oak) and Metasequoia occidentalis (Dawn Redwood) association from Montana. Complete oak leaves are rare from this site. This leaf has great detail - the venation and serrated borders are easily seen. There is also a Metasequoia frond preserved on the plate. This is a near-perfect example of an Oligocene oak leaf.
