Here is an unusual fossil fish from the Upper Miocene of Italy. This is Sygnathus agus, a pipefish. The fossil is very similar to pipefish living today. It has very long jaws, a long, slender body, and a tiny tail. The fossil has excellent, dark brown color. The contrast with the light-colored matrix is exceptional. It is nicely positioned on a large slab of matrix. This is a beautiful specimen of a fossil pipefish from Italy.
