Here is an excellent fossil insect preserved in shale. This is a large beetle Coleoptera) from the Jurassic of China. This insect exhibits wonderful detail. The head, segmented body, and legs are nicely displayed. The insect has beautiful color and contrast and is extremely well centered on the natural plate of shale. This is a great specimen of a fossil beetle from the time of the dinosaurs.
