Here is a very fine fossil grasshopper from the Cretaceous of Brazil. Grasshoppers are not common in the fossil record - but there is no mistaking that this is a grasshopper. This insect exhibits fine detail. The head, body, and wings are quite evident. Even the venation of the wings is beautifully displayed and one long antenna is intact and clearly defined. The dark brown fossil contrasts wonderfully with the light-colored matrix. The insect is well positioned on the semi-rectangular plate. This is a very detailed specimen of an unusual insect from the Cretaceous.
